By law, all children must start school in the term following their fifth birthday. South Gloucestershire Council’s current policy is to offer places to children in the September following their 4th birthday, to give all children the opportunity of three full years of infant education.
Prospective parents are welcome to telephone for an appointment to visit the school to meet staff, children and the Headteacher. Forms to register your child at school are available in the autumn before they are due to start.
Reception children follow a planned entry procedure, attending school part-time for the first few weeks, in order to help them settle happily into school life.
The South Gloucestershire Local Authority (LA) has responsibility for the admission of pupils to its schools. Parents have a right to appeal if they are refused a place for their child at their chosen school. They should contact the Admissions & Transport Team, Dept of C&YP, Badminton Road Offices, Yate, S. Glos, BS37 SAF.
Factors the authority considers when offering a place to a child are:-
- how far from the school the child lives
- whether the child has a sibling already attending St Peter’s School
- whether places are available in other local schools
- any special circumstances of the child’s family
A full copy of the LA admissions procedure can be obtained, upon request, from the school.
