15.05.26 update

Our focus book last week was “The Little Raindrop”. We spent the week learning all about different weathers. We had fun role playing in our weather station, recording the temperatures and rainfall and plotting the weather on the map. We discovered how rainbows are made and had lots of fun mixing our own colours to create rainbows. We had a visit to the allotments to plant our own seeds and helped water and look after the vegetables we planted, this helped understand why rain and sun are important for plants. We have been continuing to learn our new sounds in Phonics and are doing great. In Magic Maths we have been looking at capacity furthering our mathematical knowledge and widening our vocabulary by exploring ‘full’ ‘empty’ ‘half full’ and ‘nearly empty’.

Our focus book this week has been “The Big Bad Bug”, we have been learning all about ‘mini beasts’. The children have enjoyed our ‘mini beast café’ with bug ‘pick ‘n’ Mix’ learning to share with each other and taking turns using the tongs.

We have been using our tweezers to strengthen our fine motor skills by taking pom poms out of our spider’s web. We were really lucky to find some bugs on our scavenger hunt on the school grounds, we lifted logs and stones to see who was living underneath.

The children have enjoyed making bug hotels using natural resources in our garden area and we have transferred our Caterpillars (who have now cocooned)  to their butterfly net ready to meet our butterflies very soon!
