Reception/Year 1 - Miss Briggs

Welcome to the new school year!
Miss Briggs, Mrs Cole and Miss Daly are really looking forward to spending an amazing school year with you.

Our Learning This Term

This term our overarching theme is 'Where we live'.

Year 1: In geography we will look at Pilning and the surrounding areas and identify key features and landmarks. In history we will look at some of the many changes that took place in our area throughout the Victorian period. As scientists we will look at different materials and begin to understand why objects are made from certain materials.

Reception: We will be thinking about our homes, what makes them special and unique, where they are and what they are made from. We will think about the countryside around us and what we see when we walk around our homes. Every week in Drawing Club we will read a new story and link our pleay and learning to the ideas and themes in the story and our overall learning theme.

Reading

New books will be sent home every Friday. We encourage you to listen to your child read three times a week and record this in their reading records which are to be returned on Thursday. Enjoy the time reading together and remember that stories are one of the most magical things in a child's world.

Year 1 Homework

Alongside reading your child will receive homework on Google Classroom every Friday which should be handed in/uploaded by the following Thursday. Homework will mainly consist of spellings, reading and spending some time on the Numbots app (passwords are in their reading records). Occasionally there will be homework linked to our overarching curriculum theme for the term 'Where I Live'.

P.E. Ready Days

Monday - outdoor PE with Bristol Sports in the afternoon.

Friday - indoor PE with Miss Briggs in the afternoon.
